Custom Spray Tanning

FAQ's

>What is Sunless Spray Tanning?
Sunless spray tanning is the spray/mist application of sunless tanning solution to desired areas of your body. When applied, DHA (the active ingredient in sunless tanning solution) reacts with the proteins in the skin’s superficial layer to form a golden brown color. Your skin begins to darken two to three hours after application and reaches its peak color within 24 hours. The color will gradually fade through natural exfoliation, just like a tan from the sun.
What is DHA?
The active ingredient most often used in all sunless tanners including tinted moisturizers, self-tanners, and spray tan solution is called DHA or dihydroxyacetone. DHA is a carbohydrate (monosaccharide sugar) compound approved by the FDA for use in externally applied sunless tanning solutions. For misting applications, the FDA recommends protective measures to prevent eye contact, inhalation or ingestion. DHA is often derived from a vegetable source like beets or sugar cane. Its properties as a skin darkener were discovered in the 1920s but weren’t marketed as such until the 1960s, then added to the FDA’s list of approved colors for cosmetic products in the 1970s.
How long does a Spray Tan last?
The tan lasts approximately 5-10 days (even longer for some), depending on a person's activities, aftercare and condition of skin. The proper method of exfoliation prior to your spray tan application is the most important factor relating to your spray tan longevity. With follow up applications, a person can maintain the tan indefinitely. Using a tan extending lotion on the skin daily will help extend tanning results while keeping the tan looking healthy and glowing. Keep in mind many over the counter products, exercise, skin conditions and hormones may create uneven post-tan fading. A sunless tan is not a long term commitment, so it is great to try for the first time!
What should I wear for my Spray Tan session?
Attire for women is whatever you are comfortable with. Many things can be done to minimize tan lines. The key is your comfort level, health choice or tan line preference. Attire for men is boxers, briefs, swim trunks or shorts. Your tanning specialist will use the utmost discretion. Eye covers and nose plugs are available upon request. Please wear dark, loose clothing to wear home after your spray tan.
Will I look orange after I get sprayed?
You will not be orange. We use the highest quality solution and guarantee that you will have that just off the beach glow.
I have a special event. When is the best time to get a Spray Tan?
Usually 1-3 days prior.
I am planning a vacation and need a tan! What do I need to know about getting a spray tan before laying in the sun or swimming?
The most important thing to remember is that the solution does not contain any UV protection/sunscreen. You will still be able to develop a tan naturally in the sun. Seawater, chlorine and hot tubs can accelerate the fading of the sunless tan.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Preparing for the Custom Spray Tan
1. Exfoliate skin at least 8 hours before your sunless session for smooth skin for even tanning results. Spend a little extra time on knees, elbows, feet an hands.
2. Shave at least 6 hours before your sunless tanning session. Always shave with soap and water only– no shaving creams containing lanolin (an oil) that acts as a barrier between the tanning solution and the skin.
3. Any waxing should be done 1-2 days prior to your sunless session.
4. Do not apply oils at any time prior to or after your sunless tan.
5. Remove make-up prior to your sunless tanning session.
6. Do not have any cologne or lotion on your skin at the time of your appointment, even if it was applied earlier in the day.
7. After your sunless tan, wear dark loose fitting clothing. Do not wear wool, nylon or silk during or after your sunless application and for at least 8 hours after. DHA may react with these fabrics and cause staining
After Your Custom Spray Tan:
1. You will feel sticky and the spray tan will have a slight odor to it–this is normal.
2. Wait at least 24 hours after application before you shower. This will allow time for the self-tanning reaction to occur on the skin. When you dry, please pat dry–do not rub. If you must shower during the 4-24 hours following the application, WARM WATER RINSE ONLY.
3. You will have color immediately after your spray session. It will continue to develop over the next 24 hours. Don’t worry if you see color wash off from your first shower, this is normal. What you see washing off is the immediate cosmetic bronzer and what is left behind is a beautiful sunless tan.
4. The bronzer may get on the inside of your clothes or on your sheets. It should not stain, however we can not guarantee this. Dark colored clothing and wearing long sleeves and pants to bed is recommended to avoid this.
5. Use a PH Balancing Cleanser. Do not use bar soap or a pouf.
6. Do not apply moisturizer until after your first shower, for this could affect the immediate reaction of the sunless solution on the skin and cause streaking.
7. Do not exercise until after your first shower.
8. Moisturize daily, especially after bathing, to maintain your sunless tan. For best results use a water based moisturizer. Don’t use oil based moisturizers, they can cause blotchy areas. Use NON-SCENTED/ FRAGRANCE FREE Moisturizers or one designed just for Spray Tans.
9. Do not exfoliate skin for at least 48 hours after your sunless tanning application. When you do exfoliate, do so gently and evenly to preserve an even sunless tan.
10. If sun-bathing remember to wear a sunscreen. Sunless products do not contain sunscreen. Although you look like you have a tan, you will still need a sunscreen to prevent your skin from burning.
11. Spray tans can last from 4-10 days if cared for correctly. To maintain your tan, make sure that you moisturize and use CORRECT products.
